The episode uses Yorick’s profession as an escape artist perfectly. He spends the entire “Day Before” trying to escape his own life—his mother’s expectations, his sister’s judgment, his girlfriend’s distance. When the apocalypse hits, the irony will be cruel: He is the one man who cannot escape being the most important person on Earth. The most significant departure from the comic occurs during the actual event. In the source material, the death of the men is a sudden, chaotic montage of crashes and screams.
