Released originally on Lezhin Comics, Chapter 1, often titled "Obsession and Violence" (or simply the first part of the "Prologue"), is a masterclass in tonal whiplash. It is the bait, the switch, and the slam of a basement door all within fifty-four panels.

The basement is not dirty. It is clinical. But on a dirty mattress lies a woman. She is barely alive. Her face is swollen and purple. Her hands are bound with zip ties behind her back. She is gagged. And as Bum watches in horror, the woman’s eyes meet his—a look of pure, primal terror.

The two enter Sangwoo’s home. It is an affluent, clean, modern two-story house. Bum is mesmerized. He compliments the interior. Sangwoo disappears into the kitchen to grab drinks.
